Prepare to witness a groundbreaking evolution in the world of retro gaming, as the Analogue 3D is scheduled to make its debut in 2024.

This innovative gaming console promises an authentic 4K gaming experience, bringing back some beloved classics from the 1990s.

Gamers have a reason to celebrate, as iconic titles like Diddy Kong Racing, World Driver Championship, Cruis’n USA, and Road Rash 64 are set to make a legal and visually stunning comeback in 4K resolution.

The best part? Your treasured game cartridges will finally get the attention they deserve.

Analogue’s Storied Reputation in the Gaming World

Analogue, a prominent gaming hardware company based in Seattle, has already won the hearts of gamers with its unique take on the classic Game Boy, known as the Analogue Pocket.

This portable device allows players to relive the magic of original Game Boy, Game Boy Color, and Game Boy Advance games.

What’s more, it offers adapters to accommodate games from Atari Lynx, Neo Geo Pocket, and Sega Game Gear.

The Analogue Pocket further extends its versatility by supporting HD monitor output through a docking station, giving classic games a new lease on life.

N64: A New Frontier for Analogue

Analogue’s next venture is a heartfelt tribute to the Nintendo 64 (N64), the groundbreaking console that made its debut in 1996, marking Nintendo’s bold leap into the realm of 3D gaming.

Unlike its predecessors, the Nintendo Entertainment System and Super Nintendo Entertainment System, the N64 ushered in an era of 3D environments that captivated gamers worldwide.

With the upcoming Analogue 3D console, slated to launch in 2024, players can expect to relive the magic of N64 classics in stunning 4K resolution.

What truly sets this console apart is Analogue’s commitment to delivering a gaming experience that faithfully replicates the original experience, using what they term “reference quality recreations of specific model CRT’s and PVM’s.”

A Truly Global Gaming Experience Awaits

The Analogue 3D aspires to be the first non-Nintendo N64-style device that offers support for all three major game regions: USA, EU, and Japan.

Importantly, these games are not emulated; instead, they require the use of the original N64 cartridges.

This announcement is likely to send collectors and eBay sellers of vintage N64 games into a frenzy, as demand for these cartridges is set to soar.

Enhanced Controller Options and More

The Analogue 3D is equipped with four controller ports, likely to accommodate original N64 controllers.

Additionally, it introduces a new Bluetooth controller featuring the 8BitDo logo on one of its buttons. 8BitDo is a renowned controller manufacturer known for its range of third-party gaming accessories. Gamers may already be familiar with their popular products, such as the Micro, a compact gamepad designed for Android and the Nintendo Switch, or the Pro 2, a preferred input method for gamers.

Notably, 8BitDo has previous experience with the N64, having offered mod kits that make N64 controllers wireless and rechargeable.

Facing the Competition in Retro Gaming

The Analogue 3D will be in direct competition with the Polymega, an existing retro gaming console that specializes in playing physical media.

The Polymega’s core unit focuses on disc-based games, allowing players to enjoy classics from systems like the PlayStation, TurboGrafx-CD, Sega CD, Neo Geo CD, and Sega Saturn.

However, it’s important to note that the Polymega is gearing up for a significant addition. The EM05 Module, currently in development, will enable the Polymega to play N64 cartridges, further intensifying the competition.

Exploring Alternatives for N64 Gaming

For those eager to revisit N64 classics, the Nintendo Switch Online Expansion Pack currently offers titles like Mario Kart 64, Wave Race 64, and F-Zero X for subscribers.

However, for an experience that stays true to the original and provides access to a more extensive library of games, a separate device like the Analogue 3D will be the preferred choice.

While the Analogue 3D’s appearance and pricing details remain undisclosed, it’s almost certain that gamers and collectors will eagerly anticipate securing a spot on the waiting list for its highly anticipated launch in 2024.
