Gran Turismo 7 Vs F1 2020: What’s better?

Gran Turismo 7 Vs F1 2020: What's better?

Ever since the GT7 game release back in March 2022, sim racing drivers have been debating about which game was better between F1 2020 and Gran Turismo 7.

While the two games are very different to each other and each having its pros and cons, it can be pretty difficult to decide which one will be the perfect racing game to pick based on your preference and PC/Xbox/PS compatibility.

In this guide, we’ll have a look at some of the key differences between these games by looking at few different factors including:

  • Driving realism
  • Variety of cars and tracks
  • Graphics quality
  • Compatibility
  • Laser scanned tracks
  • Prices and Download

So let’s now get started with our in depth comparison guide of F1 2020 vs GT7!

Which game is more realistic to drive?

Both F1 2020 and GT7 are actually pretty similar in terms of driving realism despite F1 2020 having a small advanatage in terms of physics and tire grip compared to GT7.

In fact in all of the official Formula 1 licensed games the sense of realism has been pretty outstanding both in terms of driving and replays watching.

In fact, according to most sim drivers, GT7 lacks some of the realistic details that are present in F1 2020 and F1 2021.

On the other hand Gran Turismo’s physics have gotten way better over the years and they’re actually pretty sensational by now.

For that reason we’ve got to give credits to Gran Turismo 7 developers which, despite their recent game release in March 2022, have already been working on bringing fresh updates to improve their car physics even further in order to hopefully match iRacing and ACC incredible driving realism.

Which game has more cars and tracks?

In terms of cars and tracks available, F1 2020 loses out with 22 tracks and only 10 car brands and 20 drivers, compared to the 520 cars and 35 tracks (+25 layouts) that you’ll find in Gran Turismo 7.

So yeah, GT7 has got just a few more tracks but way more cars than F1 2020.

But hey, quantity doesn’t always mean quality so don’t take your decisions purely based on that.

All in all, the car details and specs in Gran Turismo 7 are pretty impressive, but they could probably add a bit more realism from the onboard cockpit view which is outstanding in games like iRacing, ACC, and rFactor 2.

Which game has better graphics?

F1 2020 has got phenomenal graphics with cutting edge 4k resolution textures and realistic lighting effects that will make you feel like you’re driving in the real F1 championship.

On the other hand, Gran Turismo 7 also looks very good but it tends to use a lot of aliasing which some people don’t really like that much.

So yeah, both games look great but F1 2020’s graphics are a little bit better in my opinion.

Compatibility (PC, Xbox, Playstation)

In terms of device compatibility, F1 2020 is the clear winner with PS4, PS5, Xbox One and Xbox Series X|S support.

In addition to that you can play F1 2020 also on a PC with an Operating System of Windows 10 or more.

Since playing racing games on PC usually tends to yield the best graphics experience thanks to powerful GPUs, this gives F1 2020 a great advantage over console-only racing simulators such as GT7.

With that in mind, racing with consoles should not always be overlooked, especially when you’re racing with Gran Turismo 7 which is only available on Playstation (PS4 & PS5).

In fact, especially for Playstation users, we usually recommend Gran Turismo 7 over F1 2020 (even though they’re totally different games) as it really is one of the few and best racing games that you can run on Playstation 4 and Playstation 5.

Which game is better in online multiplayer racing?

When it comes to online races both games offer a decent selection of multiplayer features.

Having said that F1 2020 often seems to lack enough number of participants to make the online races cool and fun to drive.

In fact the minimum number of entries required in each event is 2 and you will very rarely find events with a full F1 driver lineup.

That’s an entirely different story for GT7 which always seems to have a good number of players online and participating in races, especially thanks to their large player base on Playstation.

So if you’re really looking to enjoy some online multiplayer action, we would recommend choosing Gran Turismo 7 over F1 2020.

Which game has better force feedback?

In terms of force feedback realism, F1 2020 has a slight edge over GT7.

This is because F1 2020 uses more sophysticated physics and tire models that make the force feedback more realistic and accurate.

On top of that, both F1 2020 and GT7 have a wider range of adjustability options when it comes to force feedback, which is great if you want to customize the way your steering wheel feels while driving.

Other than that, bear in mind that in order to elevate your performance in both games make sure that you use a professional steering wheel From Fanatec, Logitech or Thrustmaster instead of playing on a controller.
