Automobilista 2 V1.7 is officially announced, but Reiza has not given it a release date. The last word, in the September 2026 Development Update, is that V1.7 is "targeted for later on the year". As of 15 October 2026 the newest build is V1.6.9.96, released on 18 September.

Checked on 15 October 2026 against Reiza Studios' official Automobilista 2 announcements on Steam: the 2026 Development Preview (4 February 2026), the June 2026 Development Update Pt1 and Pt2 (6 and 12 June), the September 2026 Development Update (10 September), and the release notes for V1.6.9.5 (1 April), V1.6.9.8 (13 June), V1.6.9.9 (4 July), V1.6.9.95 (12 September) and V1.6.9.96 (18 September). Where Reiza has not published something, I say so instead of filling the gap.

When does AMS2 V1.7 come out?

There is no date. Reiza has only ever given a window, and the window has moved.

When Reiza said itWhereV1.7 target

1 April 2026V1.6.9.5 release notesLater on this year
4 July 2026V1.6.9.9 release notesSometime during Q3 2026
10 September 2026September Development UpdateLater on the year

Q3 ended on 30 September without V1.7. So the honest answer today is the last quarter of 2026 at the earliest, and Reiza itself has not promised even that. The February preview carried a clear warning that plans are always subject to change.

Reiza also said that once the team switches its focus to V1.7, "things may become a little quiet again". There has been no new AMS2 post on Steam since 18 September. That fits what they told us. It does not tell us a date.

What is the latest AMS2 version right now?

V1.6.9.96, live since 18 September 2026. It is a fix build on top of V1.6.9.95 from 12 September.

The 2026 builds so far, all from Reiza's Steam notes:

What Reiza has confirmed for V1.7

These are the items Reiza has tied to V1.7 by name in its own posts.

Physics revisions for every class

This is the big one for anyone who cares about how the cars drive. Reiza has been rolling out "V1.7 physics revisions" class by class since V1.6.9.5. Tyres, aero and setups get reworked, and the AI is recalibrated to match.

In the V1.6.9.95 notes Reiza says most classes now have their full V1.7 revision or are at a very advanced state. The ones still partly done or not started:

Class still to finish (as of V1.6.9.95)
GT Classics
TC Vintages (Tier 1 and 2)
TSI Cup
Caterham 620R and Caterham Academy
Karting classes
Rallycross
Opala 1979, Opala 1986 and Opala Old Stock
Omega 1999 Stock Car
Super Trophy Truck and Copa Truck

V1.6.9.96 then added more tyre, aero and setup adjustments for Group C, the P1 to P4 prototypes, Stock Omega 1999, F-Trainers, F-Inter and F-3. So a lot of what V1.7 means for physics is already in your game today. V1.7 is where Reiza wants the whole grid finished.

My view as a driver: this is the right way to do it. A revision you can drive and report on for months is worth more than one big drop on release day.

AI that takes different lines

V1.6.9.95 changed how the AI reads the track edges and let AI cars follow their own lines instead of all gravitating to one dry line and one wet line. Some tracks have hand made alternative and wet paths, the rest get self generated ones.

Reiza is clear that this is the early version. In its words, the best results "are still to come when it reaches maturity in V1.7". Most of the alternative dry line logic was left switched off in V1.6.9.95 for reliability. The wet line logic is further along, so dry to wet to dry races are the best preview of where the AI is heading.

Limited tyre sets

From the June 2026 Development Update Pt1: limited tyre sets are planned for V1.7. That is what allows rules like the 2005 F1 one where you had to qualify and race on the same set. The February roadmap groups this with tow and repair delays and limited spare parts, which Reiza said it was pushing to finish in time for V1.7.0.

Bigger structural changes

The September update talks about "the bigger structural changes" Reiza has been working on for V1.7, without listing them. If you read that as the reason the date keeps sliding, I would agree, but that is my reading, not Reiza's statement.

What the February roadmap promised for 2026

The 2026 Development Preview described V1.7.0 as "packing many new cars and tracks" and then listed the year's development goals. Treat these as plans, not V1.7 confirmations, unless they appear in the table above.

AreaPlanned in the February 2026 preview
Single playerBetter AI racecraft, save and resume a race in progress
MultiplayerSign up for LFM and JR scheduled races from the in-game lobby
SimulationTyre damage properties, better wind, dynamic weather and track work
RulesVSC, ballast, more race formats, class split scoring
ModdingPer car performance mods for custom BoP, shareable presets
Career modeFirst stages in the latter half of 2026

Some of the rules items have already landed. V1.6.9.95 made qualifying rules and parc ferme configurable outside presets, for example.

New cars, tracks and DLC with V1.7

Reiza has not named the cars, tracks or DLC that will ship with V1.7. Anyone giving you a list is guessing.

What Reiza has published is the content order for 2026, again with a "this roadmap isn't definitive" warning:

  1. A formula pack filling gaps in the 2000s and 2010s. That arrived across V1.6.9.5 and V1.6.9.8.
  2. Historical Endurance Pack Pt2. Released with V1.6.9.9 on 4 July.
  3. A part 3 with late 1960s Can-Am, 1970s Le Mans prototypes and late 1970s Group 5, plus circuits from that era.
  4. 1990s British Touring Cars.
  5. 2005 German Touring Cars.
  6. Modern content to catch up on gaps.

Part 3 has not been released yet. Reiza has not said it comes with V1.7. Licensed packs will keep being paid DLC, with some free base game cars and tracks mixed in. If you want to see where the car roster stands today, my Automobilista 2 cars list is the place to start.

What happens to the F1 cars

This one is about licensing, not physics. Reiza explained in June that it has to keep a single official F1 manufacturer in AMS2 and was waiting on a new McLaren agreement. In September it said there was still no signature from the other party.

If that is not resolved quickly, Reiza says any change to that content will only happen with V1.7. Reiza has also said that cars you already own will stay in your install. Any change applies to new purchases.

What I would do before V1.7 lands

Physics revisions change how a car talks to you through the wheel. When a class gets its V1.7 pass, recheck your force feedback instead of assuming last year's numbers still fit. My AMS2 FFB settings guide is the baseline I would start from.

If you run your own championships, save your presets and championship files somewhere outside the game folder before a big update. My guide to custom championships in Automobilista 2 shows how they are built if you need to recreate one.

And for perspective on how far the sim has moved, here is what the V1.5.3 update changed back then.

FAQ

When is the Automobilista 2 V1.7 release date?

Reiza has not set one. The September 2026 Development Update says V1.7 is targeted for later in the year. Earlier targets were the end of Q2 and then Q3 2026.

What is the current version of Automobilista 2?

V1.6.9.96, released on Steam on 18 September 2026.

What is in the AMS2 1.7 update?

Confirmed by Reiza: the full V1.7 physics revision for every class, the matured AI alternative dry and wet lines, limited tyre sets and bigger structural changes it has not detailed. New cars and tracks are expected but not named.

Is there new Automobilista 2 DLC in 2026?

Yes. Historic Track Pack Pt4 and the Hungaroring came with V1.6.9.8 in June, and Historical Endurance Pack Pt2 with V1.6.9.9 in July. The next pack on Reiza's roadmap covers 1960s Can-Am, 1970s Le Mans prototypes and Group 5, with no date.

Will V1.7 be free?

Reiza has not said anything about V1.7 pricing. Every 2026 build so far, from V1.6.9.5 to V1.6.9.96, came as a normal Steam update with free base game cars included, while licensed car and track packs were sold as paid DLC.

Is career mode coming with V1.7?

Reiza has not tied it to V1.7. The February roadmap says career mode will arrive in stages, with the first stage planned for the latter half of 2026.

Can I go back to the previous AMS2 version?

Yes. Reiza keeps the last build on the Steam beta branch previousbuild. Right click AMS2, Properties, Betas.
