Laguna Seca has the strangest table of any track in the game. The usual fast cars are nowhere.
The reference car is the Honda NSX GT3 Evo. Second, 6 kg back, are the Lamborghini Huracan GT3 EVO2 and the old Porsche 991 II GT3 R. The Ford Mustang GT3 and the Mercedes-AMG GT3 Evo, first and second in the game overall for Coach Dave's drivers, are 26 kg off.
So this is a track where a base game car from 2019 beats everything.

The numbers come from Full Grip Motorsport's BoP for Laguna Seca, read on 5 October 2026. It is a league balance built from hotlap pace, not the official one in the game.
It works with ballast. The quickest car at each track is the reference at 0 kg. Every other car runs lighter to keep up. The more weight a car has taken off, the further it is from the pace there. I only show their top five. The full table is on their site.
Two cars tied for second. And look at what is missing: no Mustang, no AMG, no McLaren and no Ferrari in the top five.
1. Honda NSX GT3 Evo
Laguna Seca is short and low on grip. There is one real straight and it is not long. The lap is slow and medium corners, with the Corkscrew in the middle.
The NSX is a mid engine car that rotates very well at low speed. At the Andretti Hairpin and the last corner it turns where other cars push wide.
It is not a car people pick often. That is the fun of it here. It comes with the base game, so you already own it.
2. Lamborghini Huracan GT3 EVO2
Agile and quick to change direction, which is what the Corkscrew and Rainey Curve after it ask for. It is the best of the modern cars here and the only one from a recent pack in the top three.
3. Porsche 991 II GT3 R
The previous generation 911, in the base game. It is level with the Huracan at -6 kg.
Engine over the rear wheels means traction, and on a low grip surface traction is hard to find. Out of the Andretti Hairpin and the last corner it drives away from cars with more power.
Other cars that work at Laguna Seca
- Audi R8 LMS GT3 Evo II (-9 kg). Close to the Huracan in the way it drives and 9 kg off. Strong through the fast uphill left before the Rahal Straight.
- Nissan GT-R Nismo GT3 (-12 kg). A surprise on a track this twisty. It is heavy in the slow corners but it is stable and it has the engine for the climb to the Corkscrew.
- BMW M4 GT3 (-18 kg). Eighteen kilos off. The forgiving choice if the mid engine cars feel too lively on the dusty surface.
What Laguna Seca rewards
Rotation at low speed and traction on a slippery surface.
The track is in dry, sandy hills and the surface has less grip than most. Go off line and it gets worse. The car slides more here than you expect, both at the front on entry and at the rear on exit.
The lap starts with the Andretti Hairpin, a long double apex left. Then a run of medium speed corners, each a little faster than it looks. Then you climb.
At the top is the Corkscrew. You brake uphill and blind, turn left, and the track drops away to the right. It is a slow corner. The time is in the exit and in Rainey Curve, the fast downhill left that follows.
The last corner is a slow left onto the pit straight. Traction again.
Power does very little. That is why the order is turned upside down.
What the pro drivers say
Coach Dave Academy asked its pro drivers to rank the GT3 cars in April 2026. They put the Ford Mustang GT3 first everywhere and they name the Mercedes-AMG GT3 Evo as one of the cars to pick for Laguna Seca.
Full Grip does not agree. The AMG is only eleventh in their table here, at -26 kg. I do not read that as one of them being wrong. One is pro drivers judging a car over a race distance on the official balance. The other is hotlap pace turned into ballast for a league. Different questions, different answers.
The best car for beginners at Laguna Seca
The Honda NSX GT3 Evo. It is the reference car and you own it with the base game. It turns in well, so it teaches you the right lines here.
If it feels too lively at the rear, take the BMW M4 GT3. It is free and forgiving.
Sprint races and endurance races
Laguna Seca is narrow and short. Passing is hard. The Andretti Hairpin is the main place and the braking zone for the Corkscrew is the brave one.
In a sprint race, qualify well. The NSX or the Huracan.
In a long race the rear tyres are the limit, because every exit is a traction exit on a slippery surface. And the dust off line makes lapping traffic risky. I would take the NSX and be patient with the throttle.
One note. Coach Dave's ranking is about races on the official balance and this table is about hotlaps in a league. On a public server the Mustang will be closer than 26 kg suggests.
Pick the car you know

The lap is slow corners on a low grip surface with very little straight. I cannot tell you the exact reason, but a car that rotates and finds traction, like the NSX or the Porsche 991 II, has the edge here in Full Grip's hotlap data.
Do I need DLC to race at Laguna Seca?

Does the balance of performance change from track to track?
