EA Sports WRC is finished, but it is not dead. No more content is coming, the game stays on sale, and the WRC licence has moved to Nacon, whose new game is due in 2027. Here is what was said, by whom, and what it means if you play it today.

What Codemasters said
On 30 April 2025, Codemasters announced the end of development. Three lines from that statement matter:
- "the 2024 season, including the recently released Hard Chargers Content pack, will be our last expansion."
- "For now, we are pausing development plans on future rally titles."
- "Rest assured, EA SPORTS WRC will continue to be available for existing and new players."
So no new seasons, no new cars, no new stages from Codemasters. And no new Codemasters rally game is planned.
Is EA Sports WRC still playable?
Yes. On 4 November 2026 the Steam page still sells it, now listed as EA Sports WRC 24, at 49,99 euros. The DLC is still on sale too: Hard Chargers, Le Maestros, Locations and Cars, and the Season Expansion Bundle.
No server shutdown has been announced. You will see threads guessing at a delisting date. None of that comes from EA or Codemasters, so I would not plan around it.
What you buy today is what you get. It came out on 2 November 2023, and the game you load now is the final version.
Who makes the next WRC game?
Nacon. In May 2025 the WRC Promoter gave Nacon the exclusive rights for official WRC games on PC and console for six seasons, 2027 to 2032.
This is not Nacon's first time. Its studio KT Racing made the WRC games before Codemasters, the last one being WRC Generations in 2022. Nacon has called the new game a complete reboot.
Then two things happened in 2026:

The insolvency is the part to watch. A reorganisation is not a closure, and the game was announced after it. But a publisher under court protection is a risk for any date.
What we know about WRC The Official Game
Not much yet, and I will only list what was shown:
- Name: WRC The Official Game.
- Developer: Grit Games, Unreal Engine 5.
- First car: the 2026 Lancia Ypsilon HF Integrale Rally2, scanned at the PH Sport workshop.
- Release: 2027. No date. Nacon was reported as saying late 2027.
- Platforms: not announced. The licence covers PC and console.
No gameplay, no physics details, no stage list, no wheel support list. When those appear I will add them here.
Should you buy EA Sports WRC now?
If you want an official WRC game today, yes. Nothing replaces it before 2027, and the content is all there: the Rally1 hybrids, the history cars, the Builder mode, the career.
Two reasons to think twice:
- You want a game that keeps growing. It will not. Look at Assetto Corsa Rally, which is still in early access and getting updates.
- You care most about physics on a wheel. Then Richard Burns Rally with the free RallySimFans mod is still the reference for a lot of rally drivers.

Is EA Sports WRC dead?
Development is over. Codemasters said in April 2025 that the 2024 season and Hard Chargers were the last expansion. The game is still on sale and playable.
Will there be an EA Sports WRC 2?
No. Codemasters paused all future rally titles, and the WRC game licence belongs to Nacon from 2027.
Is EA Sports WRC shutting down?
No shutdown has been announced. It was still on sale on Steam on 4 November 2026.
When does the next WRC game come out?
WRC The Official Game has a 2027 release window and no date. Nacon was reported as aiming for late 2027.
Who is making the new WRC game?
Grit Games, a new studio with former KT Racing staff, published by Nacon. It runs on Unreal Engine 5.
Will the new WRC game be on PS5 and Xbox?
Not announced yet. Nacon's licence covers PC and console, but no platform list has been published.
