No. As of 15 October 2026, iRacing does not have a career mode you can play. It has an official, announced single player Career Mode in development. In August 2026 iRacing said it is technology-complete and in final polish, but there is no release date yet.
Checked on 15 October 2026 against iRacing's Development Updates of November 2025 (14 November 2025), May 2026 (28 May 2026) and August 2026 (28 August 2026), the 2026 Season 4 Initial Release Notes (2026.09.09.01) and Patch 1 notes (2026.10.01.01), and iRacing's support articles on AI racing and on graduating from Rookie class. Where iRacing has not published something, I say so instead of filling the gap.

Does iRacing have a career mode?
Not one you can load today. The Season 4 build that went out on 9 September 2026 does not include it. Neither does Patch 1, build 2026.10.01.01. I read both sets of release notes and Career Mode is not mentioned in either.
What exists is an announcement. iRacing has been talking about it in its own Development Updates for almost a year.
If by "career" you mean the online path from Rookie licence up to A class, that is a different thing. I cover it in how to start an iRacing career. This page is about the single player Career Mode iRacing is building.
What iRacing has said so far
Three official updates, all signed by Greg Hill on iracing.com.
| Date | Source | What it said about Career Mode |
|---|---|---|
| 14 November 2025 | Development Update: November 2025 | A single player focused Career Mode project is underway, a large project across several departments |
| 28 May 2026 | Development Update: May 2026 | Built separately from the multiplayer system, real world career paths plus globe-trotting events, engineered to be extended |
| 28 August 2026 | Development Update: August 2026 | Technology-complete. Team on bug fixing, usability testing and final polish. "Just a little more time in the oven" |
The August update is the important one. iRacing says it nearly made that post a release announcement. It did not. So the honest status is: close, by their own words, but undated.
There has been no Development Update since 28 August. If the next one follows the quarterly pattern, that is where I would expect news first.
How Career Mode will work
Everything in this section is from the August 2026 update. iRacing has not published more than this yet.
- Single player, against AI. It is its own platform, separate from the online multiplayer side.
- Seven careers at launch. iRacing says each one is a full game's worth of content. It has not named them or said which series they use.
- Objectives each season. You are expected to reach a level of performance in the standings. Miss it and you get a limited number of retries.
- Retries cost you. The more re-dos you take, the lower your overall leaderboard score.
- Demotion is real. Run out of chances and you can be demoted and have to start the career again.
- Adjustable difficulty, including a more casual option.
- Race and schedule length grow as you move up, and you can customise both.
- Leaderboards for global competition.
- More careers later, plus one-off Career Events.
That retry and demotion system is the part I like. In a real junior career you do not get unlimited goes. A bad season has consequences. A mode that makes a bad season cost something is closer to how it works than a mode where you just restart the race.
What it costs and what you need to own
Career Mode is included in the standard iRacing subscription. No extra car or track purchases.
The way iRacing does that: cars and tracks open up as you progress through a career, then lock again after each race week or season. That access only works inside Career Mode. It does not add the content to your account for online racing.
If you are trying to work out what iRacing costs before then, I keep that in iRacing subscription cost.
What is not in the first release
iRacing listed these itself as missing on day one:
| Feature | At launch |
|---|---|
| Driver/owner system | No |
| Sponsorship management | No |
| Team budgets | No |
| Save Game | No, it is on the roadmap |
Save Game is the big one. Until it arrives, iRacing has not explained how progress is stored across sessions in detail, so I am not going to guess.
Two more things iRacing has not said: whether Career Mode touches your iRating or Safety Rating, and which platforms it runs on beyond the normal iRacing service. Treat any article that answers those as speculation until iRacing confirms.
What you can race offline today
Until Career Mode lands, the closest thing is an AI Season. It is a championship you build yourself against iRacing's AI.
From iRacing's support article on AI racing:
- Click Create a Season on the AI Racing page.
- Set it up like an AI single race: car, weather, sessions, AI roster, track conditions, time of day.
- Add tracks. Each track is one event, with its own settings.
- Pick a points system. There are real world systems, or you build your own.
- Save, then press Race.
Each season is saved as a .json file in Documents\iRacing\aiseasons, so you can share it with a friend. iRacing also ships an official AI Season you can copy and run.
The catch is AI content. AI only runs in AI-enabled cars and at AI-enabled tracks. The list grows every season. In 2026 Season 4, iRacing added AI to eight more cars and 19 more track configurations.
My step by step for setting up AI races and rosters is in how to race AI in iRacing.
Career Mode against AI Seasons and online racing
| Career Mode (announced) | AI Season (available) | Official online racing | |
|---|---|---|---|
| Opponents | AI | AI | Real people |
| Who sets the schedule | iRacing's careers | You | iRacing's series calendar |
| Goals and demotion | Yes, season objectives | No | Licence and Safety Rating |
| Content | Opens up inside the mode, no purchase | What you own and is AI-enabled | What you own |
| Affects iRating and SR | Not stated by iRacing | No | Yes |
| Release | No date | Out now | Out now |
The online ladder is still the real career
Here is my honest view. The thing that has always made iRacing feel like a career is the licence system, and it is already there.
Everyone starts in Rookie. To get to D class you need 3.0 Safety Rating plus the minimum participation: two races or four time trials in eligible Rookie series. From D up to A, a fast track promotion needs 4.0 SR. Otherwise promotions happen at the end of the season. Finishing position does not get you promoted. Clean laps do.
That is how a real career works too. Nobody moves you up because you were fast once. They move you up because you finish races and do not cost them a car.
If you are stuck in Rookie, read how to get out of Rookie in iRacing. For the safety side, how to increase Safety Rating in iRacing. And for what else changed this season, there is iRacing 2026 Season 4 changes.

FAQ
Does iRacing have a career mode?
Not yet. As of 15 October 2026 it is announced and in final polish, according to iRacing's August 2026 Development Update, but it has no release date.
When is iRacing Career Mode coming out?
iRacing has not given a date. In August 2026 it said the mode is technology-complete and needs "a little more time". It did not ship in the Season 4 build of 9 September or in Patch 1 (build 2026.10.01.01).
Is iRacing Career Mode single player?
Yes. iRacing describes it as a single player platform against AI, built separately from the online multiplayer system.
Will Career Mode cost extra?
No. iRacing says it is included in the standard subscription and you do not need to buy cars or tracks for it. The content you get access to only works inside Career Mode.
How many careers will there be?
Seven at launch, according to iRacing. It has not named them yet. More careers and one-off Career Events are planned after launch.
Will Career Mode affect my iRating or Safety Rating?
iRacing has not said. What is confirmed is that normal AI races and AI Seasons do not affect iRating or Safety Rating.
Can I do a single player championship in iRacing now?
Yes, with an AI Season. You choose the car, the tracks, the AI roster and the points system, and race it offline against AI.
