NASCAR 26 career mode puts you at the bottom of the ladder and asks you to climb to Cup. It came out on 18 September 2026 on PC, PS5 and Xbox Series X|S.

Here is how it works: the four series, what you earn, what you spend it on, and what is new this year.

Checked on 17 October 2026. iRacing Studios describes career mode only in outline, so the details below are the ones that the official launch news and at least two reviews agree on (Traxion, CGMagazine, GamingBolt and NoobFeed). Where they disagree, I say so. I have not played career mode for this page, so there are no impressions of my own here.

The ladder

StepSeriesWhat it is
1ARCA Menards SeriesWhere every career starts
2Craftsman Truck SeriesThe first step up
3O'Reilly Auto Parts SeriesThe series that used to be the Xfinity Series
4Cup SeriesThe top

You cannot start in Cup. Every review I read starts in ARCA and works up.

How you move up

This is where the reviews do not agree. CGMagazine says finishing a season in one series opens the next. Traxion says reputation opens the next series.

I will not pick one. Do both: finish every season, and keep your results high enough to build reputation. That covers you whichever rule the game uses.

Money and reputation

After every race you are paid in two things.

What you earnWhat it does
MoneyPays for repairs, parts, car upgrades and facility upgrades
ReputationEarned by good results. Brings better sponsorship and money making chances

The reviews agree that money is tight at the start, and repairs come out of it. So every crash is paid for twice: once in the result, again in the garage.

If you pre-ordered, you started with an extra 5,000 career bonus dollars and 500 reputation points. The Season Pass adds VIP employees, 1,000 reputation points and a 10,000 career bonus, according to iRacing's launch news.

Parts wear

Parts wear after every event. Let them run down and the car gets slower, and your results drop with it. So a share of every week's money goes on keeping the car where it was, before you spend anything on making it faster.

Two reviews describe the same loop: race, repair the car, spend what is left, go to the next weekend.

Facility Upgrades: what is new in 26

The big addition this year is Facility Upgrades, on a new weekly planning screen. iRacing calls it "weekly strategic planning decisions with Facility Upgrades".

The reviews agree that career money can go into your team's facilities as well as the car. One review gives a count of upgrades and the rules for opening more, but I could not find a second source for it, so I leave the numbers out.

Coaching

The game has coaching and tips from Steve Letarte and Jamie McMurray, and a training mode called Peak Performance. If you are new to stock cars, do it before your first ARCA race.

How I would run the first season

This is my own plan, based on the rules above, not on a save file.

  • Set the AI where you finish in the top 10, not where you win. You learn more, and you still earn.
  • Do not crash. Repairs eat the early money faster than anything else.
  • Repair first, upgrade second. A worn car loses more than a new part gives back.
  • Finish the season. Whatever the exact rule for moving up, a finished season with good results covers it.

Set up the wheel first

Career is a long mode. Before you start it, sort the wheel: my NASCAR 26 wheel settings cover the G29, G920, TX, T300 and T248, starting from 270 degrees of rotation.

If you still play the older game, my NASCAR Heat 5 tips cover the driving side and the NASCAR Heat 5 Cup setups have a setup for every track.

FAQ

Where does NASCAR 26 career mode start?

In the ARCA Menards Series. From there you go to the Craftsman Truck Series, then the O'Reilly Auto Parts Series, then Cup.

Can I start my career in the Cup Series?

No. Every career starts in ARCA.

How do I move up a series in NASCAR 26?

The reviews disagree. One says finishing the season opens the next series, another says reputation does. Finish every season with good results and you cover both.

What are Facility Upgrades?

New in NASCAR 26. They sit on a weekly planning screen and let you spend career money on your team's facilities as well as the car.

What do I spend career money on?

Repairs, parts, car upgrades and facility upgrades. Parts wear after every race, so repairs come first.

What is the O'Reilly Auto Parts Series?

The series that used to be called the Xfinity Series. It is the third step on the career ladder, below Cup.
