Assetto Corsa EVO Free Roam is an open world map of the Eifel region in Germany, the hills and villages around the Nurburgring. The first part of it comes with update 0.10 on 9 December 2026. KUNOS and 505 Games announced the date at the SimRacing Expo Frankfurt on 16 October 2026, where visitors can drive a work in progress build until 18 October.

Here is what is confirmed, what is still unknown, and what I want to try first.

Updated on 17 October 2026 with the date from the KUNOS and 505 Games press release of 16 October (Games Press). KUNOS announced Free Roam on Steam on 6 October and showed it in a keynote video with co-founder Marco Massarutto on 7 October. The other feature details come from that keynote and the Expo, as reported by Traxion and by PlayGround.ru on the Steam news hub. Where only one of them reports a detail, I say so.

9 December 2026Update 0.10, the first part of Free Roam, on Steam (PC, Early Access)

Some sites expected it in the second half of October. That was never a KUNOS date, and the real one is 9 December. 0.10 is still Early Access, and 0.9 was not the end of it: KUNOS said in the 0.9 notes that it would not mark the final release of the Early Access programme.

The map: the Eifel around the Nurburgring

KUNOS builds the Eifel 1:1, with the real roads, buildings and landmarks around the Ring. The map will grow in parts. Update 0.10 is the first part only. The press release gives no size, but Massarutto told Traxion at the Expo that it is about 70 square kilometres, "bigger than Manhattan".

The part that matters most to me: the Nordschleife is inside the map. You drive the public roads to the tourist entrance and onto the track, the way a tourist day works in real life. On a real tourist day the drive there through the villages is part of it. If KUNOS gets that right, that is the feature.

What the map will not be, at least not in 0.10, is the whole Eifel. Traxion reports the plan is 1,600 square kilometres in total over future updates. So 70 is under 5% of the final map. Treat the first version as the start, not all of it.

What you can do in Free Roam

PlayGround.ru also reports that hitting posts, trees and barriers damages the car. Traxion does not mention it, so take that as likely, not confirmed.

What is not known yet

  • The official map size. The 70 square kilometres comes from Massarutto in an interview, not from the press release.
  • Hosted servers. Free Roam is multiplayer from day one with up to 30 players a server, but nobody has said if you can host your own Eifel server.
  • Walking with friends. Walk mode and multiplayer are both confirmed. Walking together in the same session is not.
  • Consoles. EVO is on PC only today, and there is no console date. My Assetto Corsa EVO on PS5 page tracks that.

The cars to take

The keynote showed a Mercedes-AMG G63 off road, and the Lamborghini Temerario, confirmed on 6 October, driving for the first time. Neither is in the game you can buy today. For what is in the game now, see my Assetto Corsa EVO car list.

My pick for a first drive, from what is in the game: something small and slow. A road car with 200 horsepower on a narrow Eifel road is more fun than a supercar you can never use, and it is how you learn a road without a run off area. You cannot fix a bad corner with power on a road like that.

Free Roam in EVO against the old Assetto Corsa mods

In the 2014 Assetto Corsa, free roam only exists through mods: a map from one author, traffic from another, and often no AI line at all. My best Assetto Corsa free roam maps list covers the good ones. EVO is the first time KUNOS builds it into the game, with traffic, multiplayer and the services on the map from the start. KUNOS even named the LA Canyons and Transfagarasan mods in the keynote.

Will it replace the mods? Not on day one. The first Eifel part is one region. The mods cover California, Japan, the Alps and more. I would keep both installed.
