How realistic is it to drive?
The most important thing that a racing simulation software has to do is provide a realistic driving experience to its users.
Lucky for us sim racers, there are numerous options of high-quality racing software that have successfully emulated real-life racing, just like both Assetto Corsa and Automobilista 2.
Assetto Corsa has been a household name in the world of sim racing.
It is known for a lot of things but one of its strong points is how realistic it is to drive a racing car in Assetto Corsa.
Assetto Corsa is one of the few racing software that real-life racers trust as a platform for them to hone their racing skills.
Automobilista 2 on the other hand is a newcomer in the world of sim racing.
However, Automobilista 2 is not just any other racing software.
Underestimated by a lot of sim racers upon its initial release, Automobilista 2 has shocked the world with how realistic it is to drive a racing car.
After examining different aspects (to be explained further below), it is safe to say that the level of realism in this racing game is definitely worth giving a try.
Variety of cars and tracks
One thing that both Assetto Corsa and Automobilista 2 had in common is the wide variety of options when it comes to the types of race cars that you can choose from.
In Assetto Corsa, you can choose from over 200 race cars that are mostly licensed from their official manufacturer, including Lamborghini, Mercedes, Ferrari, Alfa Romeo, and more.
With those cars, you will be able to race in 11 real-life racing venues that come with multiple layouts.
In Automobilista 2, the number of cars is more limited with approximately 70 different cars.
However, Automobilista 2 offers a wider variety of car types including karts and GT cars.
In terms of race tracks, you can race in 35 real-life racing venues including 9 historical venues.
Graphics quality
When it comes down to graphic quality, Assetto Corsa never fails to maintain a high standard for every aspect of the simulation.
The car details, racing environment, and the movements of the car as it glides through the race tracks show why Assetto Corsa managed to establish itself as one of the best racing software for so long.
On the other hand, Automobilista 2 also did a great job in making sure that the graphic quality is comparable with the elite racing software.
However, one thing that most people still find lacking is how the cars in Automobilista 2 do not look as smooth when moving through the asphalt during the race.
Car handling
Assetto Corsa never fails to provide a realistic car handling system where you will practically be driving a real-life racing car with your sim racing setup.
After all, this is one of the main reasons why real-life racers are open to using Assetto Corsa to practice their real-life racing skills.
The same goes for Automobilista 2, although it is not widely used by real-life racers, keep in mind that this racing software is much newer compared to the likes of Assetto Corsa and iRacing.
However, the developers have done a fantastic job in making sure that every detail of the car handling is on point.
Compatibility (PC, Xbox, Playstation)
As you might already know, Assetto Corsa is a versatile racing software that can be run on different devices including PC, Xbox, and Playstation.
While PCs are always the best especially when you are using a PC with top specs, Assetto Corsa runs perfectly well in both Playstation as well as Xbox.
In contrast, Automobilista 2 is only available for PC, and just like most racing software, you can simply download it on Steam.
FOV (Field of view)
By default, it is safe to say that the developers of both Assetto Corsa and Automobilista 2 have done a brilliant job in keeping the FOV realistic and optimal for us sim racers.
Most importantly, both software allows us, users, to adjust the FOV in the settings menu. Finally, we feel like Automobilista 2 deserves extra credit for how compatible it is with VR.
It has to be one of the best and most realistic software when it comes to racing with VR.
Are tracks laser-scanned?
Unlike other racing software that offers fictional racing venues, both Assetto Corsa and Automobilista 2 focused on providing real-life race tracks and venues for all of its users.
To ensure that the tracks are realistic compared to the real-life version, both racing software has made sure that every track in either software has been thoroughly laser scanned.
Online multiplayer
Assetto Corsa has one of the most competitive online multiplayer platforms where you can participate in plenty of Online Racing Leagues.
Here, your skills are examined with the ranking system where you will be matched with sim racers of your level, so the races are always kept competitive and fun.
Automobilista 2 also comes with a sophisticated online multiplayer platform where you can test yourself with some of the best sim racers from around the world.
Just like most online races, there is a ranking system that will assess different aspects of your race including your skills and safety ratings.
Force Feedback (FFB)
If we are comparing the force feedback of Assetto Corsa and Automobilista 2 before its latest update, it is clear that Assetto Corsa is way ahead in terms of accuracy and precision.
After all, many sim racers find the force feedback in Automobilista 2 to be less precise compared to other racing software.
Fortunately, Automobilista has updated its FFB system and it is safe to say that the current force feedback system is as accurate as ever!
