Kyalami is fast, it flows and it goes up and down a hill all lap. It rewards a car you trust at speed.
The reference car is the Aston Martin V8 Vantage GT3. The Ford Mustang GT3 is 1 kg behind, which is the same thing. The McLaren 720S GT3 Evo is 4 kg behind.
One base game car and two free updates. You need the track pack for Kyalami, but not a single car pack.

The numbers come from Full Grip Motorsport's BoP for Kyalami, read on 5 October 2026. It is a league balance built from hotlap pace, not the official one in the game.
It works with ballast. The quickest car at each track is the reference at 0 kg. Every other car runs lighter to keep up. The more weight a car has taken off, the further it is from the pace there. I only show their top five. The full table is on their site.
Three cars inside 4 kg, then a step of 5 kg to the BMW. The first two are level in practice.
1. Aston Martin V8 Vantage GT3
Kyalami has several corners where you brake while the track falls away from you. Crowthorne at the start of the lap. Sunset. The drop through the Mineshaft into the slow corners after it.
Downhill braking makes the rear light. The Aston is one of the most stable cars in the class on the brakes, so it lets you commit where other cars make you wait.
It is also steady through the fast sweeps. Nothing about it is spectacular. It is just calm everywhere, and at Kyalami calm is fast.
2. Ford Mustang GT3
One kilo off. It is as stable as the Aston and it has more engine for the climb back up the hill to the start line.
For a race I would not separate the two. Take the one you know.
3. McLaren 720S GT3 Evo
Kyalami has a lot of medium and fast corners that follow each other, the Jukskei Sweep and the Esses above all. That is where downforce counts and the McLaren has the most of it.
It asks for more care on the downhill braking than the two front engine cars.
Other cars that work at Kyalami
- BMW M4 GT3 (-9 kg). Nine kilos off and the most forgiving car in the top six. Stable, easy over the kerbs in the Esses and free.
- Audi R8 LMS GT3 Evo II (-10 kg). Quick through the Jukskei Sweep and Sunset. The rear moves around more under the downhill braking, so it takes commitment.
- Porsche 992 GT3 R (-12 kg). Coach Dave's drivers name Kyalami as a Porsche track. It brakes very late and it has the traction for the slow uphill exits at the end of the lap. Full Grip has it 12 kg off.
What Kyalami rewards
Stability, above all under braking.
The track sits on a hillside. The first half of the lap runs downhill through fast corners. The second half climbs back up through slower ones.
Fast and downhill together is the hard part. You turn into Crowthorne and Sunset with the car light and the speed high. A car that stays settled there lets you carry the speed. A nervous one makes you lift, and a lift at Kyalami costs you all the way down the next straight.
The Esses need a car that changes direction without a second movement. The slow corners at the end of the lap need traction, uphill.
The track is narrow and the walls are close in places. Mistakes are expensive here. That is one more reason the calm cars lead.
What the pro drivers say
Coach Dave Academy asked its pro drivers to rank the GT3 cars in April 2026. They put the Ford Mustang GT3 first everywhere and they name the Porsche 992 GT3 R as one of the cars to pick for Kyalami.
Full Grip does not agree. The Porsche 992 is only sixth in their table here, at -12 kg. I do not read that as one of them being wrong. One is pro drivers judging a car over a race distance on the official balance. The other is hotlap pace turned into ballast for a league. Different questions, different answers.
The best car for beginners at Kyalami
The Aston Martin V8 Vantage GT3. It is the reference car, it is in the base game and it is one of the easiest GT3 cars to drive.
The Mustang and the BMW are just as friendly. All three are free with the game.
Sprint races and endurance races
Passing at Kyalami is not easy. The best place is the braking zone for Crowthorne at the end of the main straight. After that the lap flows too much for a clean move.
In a sprint race qualifying matters. The McLaren is the car I would take for one lap.
In a long race it is about not making a mistake. The walls are close and the fast corners punish a tired driver. The Aston or the Mustang, and drive at nine tenths.
Pick the car you know
