The GT Cafe is the career mode of Gran Turismo 7. Luca, the owner, hands you a Menu Book. You do what it says, you go back, you get a reward and the next book.
There are 39 of them and you do them in order. Here is every one, what it asks for and what it opens. I checked the list against two other sources on 5 October 2026.
How many Menu Books are there in GT7?
39 in the main story. 20 are car collections, 10 are championships and 9 are small tasks like washing a car or taking a photo.
When you finish book 39 you see the ending. After that the Cafe keeps going with Bonus Menu Books and Extra Menus. Those are further down this page.
How a Menu Book works
- Collection. You need three cars. The Cafe marks the races that give them as prizes. Finish in the top three of each race and the car is yours. You can also buy the cars if you want, but that is money you do not need to spend.
- Championship. A short series of races. Finish in the top three overall.
- Task. One small job: a licence test, a tune, a wash, a photo. They take a few minutes and they are there to show you a part of the game.
Then you go back to the Cafe, Luca tells you about the cars, and you collect the reward. If you forget to go back, nothing new opens.
One tip from somebody who has spent a lot of years being told to do things in the right order: do not fight it. The early books give you slow cars on purpose. Learn to carry speed in a Honda Fit and the fast cars later feel easy.
Menu Books 1 to 13
This part is the tutorial. Every second book opens a piece of the map. Which of the three starter cars you buy does not matter much, because the Sunday Cup in book 1 hands out all three as prizes.

Book 9 is the one to aim for if you bought the game to race online. Sport mode and the lobbies open as soon as you finish it. My GT7 daily races page explains what you find there.
Menu Books 14 to 26
Now the cars get rear wheel drive and real power, and the big tracks start to open. Book 17 opens the Legend Cars dealer. Book 21 gives you the Nurburgring.

Book 26 has a catch. The three Fords are prizes for a top three in each Pick-up Truck Race event, and you cannot enter those without a pickup. Buy a Toyota Tundra TRD Pro '19 in Brand Central first. If you buy the F-150 Raptor yourself, the race that gives it away no longer does.
Menu Books 27 to 39
The last block is where most people slow down. The races are longer, the PP limits are higher and you need a car that is tuned properly. The GT7 tuning guide helps here.

A few tracks are not tied to a book at all. Watkins Glen, Road Atlanta, Grand Valley, Lake Louise and Eiger Nordwand open with your Collector Level, which goes up as the value of your garage goes up. The full list of circuits is in my GT7 track list.
The rewards
Every book gives you something. About half of them open tracks or a part of the map. The rest give a roulette ticket, and the tickets get better as you go. The one after book 39 is the best of the story.
The tickets are a lottery. Sometimes it is a car, often it is a small pile of credits. How they work is in how to get roulette tickets in GT7. The real prize of the Cafe is the cars: by book 39 you have won about 60 of them without paying, and that is the base of your garage. If you need money after that, go to the GT7 credits guide.
After book 39: Bonus Menu Books
Polyphony added more books in updates. They carry on the numbering, from 40 to 51 when I checked, and each one is a new race series. You need to have finished book 39, and you need a Collector Level too.

The levels are from GTPlanet's unlock guide. So these do not open in number order. With a normal garage at the end of the story you will see 40 and 41 first, and the X2019 Nations Cup last.
The one people ask about most is 42, with a wet race at Suzuka in the middle. That has its own page: GT7 Menu Book 42.
Extra Menus
Extra Menus are a different thing. They are car collections with no story: own the three cars on the page, go to the Cafe, take the ticket. There were 51 of them when I checked, and the game adds more with updates.
Most of them only need book 39. The four newest also have a Collector Level: 70 for Alfa Romeo Legends, 66 for Legendary Road Racers, 52 for Audi TT and 57 for Mazda.
Here you do not win the cars. You buy them, in Brand Central, in the used car dealer or at Legend Cars. Some of them are very expensive, so look at the three cars before you start to save.

How many Menu Books are in GT7?

Can you skip a Menu Book in GT7?
No. The 39 books come in a fixed order and each one opens the next.
Do I have to buy the cars for a collection book?
No. In the 39 main books you win the three cars by finishing in the top three of the races the Cafe marks. In the Extra Menus you have to own the cars, which usually means buying them.
Which Menu Book unlocks Sport mode?
Book 9, the Tokyo Highway Parade. Finish it and multiplayer and Sport mode open.
Which Menu Book unlocks the Nurburgring?
Book 21, the Asia-Oceania Championship. It also opens the Red Bull Ring and Dragon Trail.
What do you get for finishing Menu Book 39?
The ending of the story and the best roulette ticket of the Cafe. It also opens engine swaps, the Weekly Challenges, the car valuation service and the Bonus and Extra Menus.
What is the hardest Menu Book?
For most players it is 33, the World Touring Car 600, or the last one, the World GT Series. Both ask for a well tuned car and clean races.
What is the difference between Bonus Menu Books and Extra Menus?
Bonus Menu Books are new race series and carry on the numbering after 39. Extra Menus are car collections: you only need to own the three cars.
