Le Mans Ultimate or iRacing. Short answer: Le Mans Ultimate if what you want is the WEC, Hypercars and Le Mans itself. iRacing if you want every kind of racing in one place and you accept paying every month for it.

They are closer than they look on paper. Both run ranked online races with a safety rating. Both do team endurance racing. Both have the Ferrari 499P and the Porsche 963. What separates them is the bill and the breadth.

Every price and number below comes from Steam, racecontrol.gg, iracing.com or the official game guide at guide.lemansultimate.com, read on 8 October 2026. Where something is my opinion, I say so.

What each one costs

This is where they differ most, so I start here.

Le Mans Ultimate

  • The game. $39.99 on Steam. On the day I checked it was on sale at $21.99. You pay once and it is yours.
  • RaceControl Lite. $0. This is the free tier of the online platform. The RaceControl page describes it as daily races, your own driver profile and joining or setting up hosted servers.
  • RaceControl Pro. $7.99 a month or $48 a year. It adds Online Championships and more detailed driver reports.
  • RaceControl Pro+. $13.99 a month or $84 a year. Everything in Pro, plus all the DLC of Le Mans Ultimate and rFactor 2 for as long as you stay subscribed.

Two notes. The yearly prices carry an "Early Access Pricing" label on that page, so I would not count on them forever. And taxes are added at checkout.

You can also skip the subscription and buy the DLC packs on Steam, where they stay yours. I added up what the track packs cost on my Le Mans Ultimate track list.

iRacing

iRacing has no purchase price. You rent access.

MembershipRegularNew member, 30% off
1 month$14.75$10.33
3 months$37.50$26.25
1 year$124.50$87.15
2 years$222.50$155.75

These are the prices on iracing.com/membership, before tax. They went up in August 2026.

Steam sells the same membership with its own numbers: $11.59 for the first month, then $15.99 a month on renewal. On the day I checked, the first month was discounted to $4.63.

Then comes the content. The membership includes 32 cars and 29 tracks. iRacing's support page puts every other car at $11.95, and every other track at $11.95 or $14.95, paid once.

That is the part new members underestimate. iRacing says the membership covers the cars and tracks for every ranked Rookie series. Above Rookie, check the included list before you assume your car is on it, and remember each series moves to a different track every week.

A first year, side by side

The sums in the graphic at the top of the page are mine, from those list prices.

  • Le Mans Ultimate, base game, daily races: $39.99.
  • Le Mans Ultimate plus a year of Pro+: $123.99, with every car and track in the game.
  • iRacing, one year at the regular price: $124.50, with the included content only.

So a full year of Le Mans Ultimate with everything costs what iRacing costs before you buy a single car. And in the second year the Le Mans Ultimate base game costs nothing, while iRacing bills you again.

iRacing is the more expensive one. Nobody argues that. The question is whether you get more for it.

Cars and tracks

Le Mans Ultimate: one championship, done deep

Le Mans Ultimate is the official game of the FIA World Endurance Championship and the 24 Hours of Le Mans. The content follows the real seasons.

The base game is the 2023 WEC season. Steam lists 19 cars and 7 laser scanned tracks in it. The Hypercars are the Cadillac V-Series.R, Ferrari 499P, Glickenhaus SCG 007, Peugeot 9X8, Porsche 963, Toyota GR010 Hybrid and Vanwall Vandervell 680. You also get the Oreca 07 LMP2 and the GTE cars from Aston Martin, Corvette, Ferrari and Porsche.

The 2024 and 2025 content is DLC, or part of Pro+. That is where the Alpine A424, BMW M Hybrid V8, Lamborghini SC63, Isotta Fraschini, Aston Martin Valkyrie and the whole LMGT3 class live. The ELMS packs add LMP3 cars.

In total there are 18 tracks today, 7 in the base game and 11 paid.

iRacing: everything, in pieces

iRacing says it has over 180 cars and over 150 tracks. Sports cars are one corner of it. There are ovals, dirt, open wheelers and rallycross too.

For the kind of racing Le Mans Ultimate does, the iRacing car list has:

  • Top class prototypes. Ferrari 499P, Aston Martin Valkyrie, BMW M Hybrid V8, Porsche 963, Cadillac V-Series.R and Acura ARX-06.
  • LMP2. Dallara P217.
  • GT3. Eleven current cars, from the Aston Martin Vantage to the Porsche 911 GT3 R (992).
  • GTE. BMW M8, Ferrari 488, Ford GT and Porsche 911 RSR.
  • Older Le Mans cars. Porsche 919 and Audi R18 LMP1.

The Circuit des 24 Heures du Mans is in iRacing as well. I could not confirm its price on the track page, so check the store before you count on it.

What iRacing does not have is the full WEC grid. No Toyota, no Peugeot, no Alpine. If you want the real 2025 entry list on the real calendar, only one of these two has it.

Online racing

Both sims are built around ranked racing against strangers. The structure is different.

Le Mans Ultimate

Online racing runs through RaceControl. There are two ratings, and the RaceControl support pages explain them:

  • Safety Rating. From Bronze 1 to Platinum 3. It measures how clean you are.
  • Driver Rating. It measures your pace.

Daily races come in three tiers. Beginner races are open to everyone. Intermediate races run every 2 hours and need Silver. Advanced races run every 3 hours and need Gold. Team endurance events need Bronze 2 and a Good Driver or Trusted Driver badge.

All of that is in the $0 tier. Pro is for the championships.

iRacing

iRacing uses a licence ladder. You start as a Rookie and work up to class D, C, B, A and Pro. Each step opens more series. iRacing says it offers over 40.

Your Safety Rating starts at 2.5. To leave Rookie you need 2 races or 4 time trials and a Safety Rating over 3.0, according to iRacing's getting started guide. A separate number, iRating, tracks your results and is used to split the field by pace.

iRacing claims more than 350,000 sim racers. I could not find an official player count for Le Mans Ultimate on the same day, so I will not compare the two as numbers. My opinion, and only that: if you race at odd hours, or want full grids in a niche series, the bigger service is the safer bet.

Team endurance

Both do it. iRacing supports team racing in official series and in user sessions, and builds its special events calendar around full length 6, 12 and 24 hour races based on real events. Le Mans Ultimate has team endurance events on RaceControl, plus a Co-op mode where friends share a race against AI and each drives when they have time.

Rain, AI and VR

Rain. Both have it. Le Mans Ultimate has dynamic weather across the game. iRacing added rain in 2024 Season 2, and a session needs an asphalt road course and a rain-enabled car to use it.

AI. Le Mans Ultimate has Race Weekend, a single player mode against AI with adjustable difficulty, session length, time of day and weather. iRacing has AI single races and AI seasons, and you can fill a hosted race with AI drivers. iRacing itself says its AI covers a limited list of cars and tracks, so check that your car is on it.

VR. Steam lists both as VR supported.

Platform. Both are Windows only. Neither is on console today. I track the console question on my Le Mans Ultimate on PS5 page.

PC requirements

iRacing asks for more on paper: double the memory and more cores. I have not benchmarked the two against each other, so I leave it at what the publishers list.

How the hybrid cars differ

This is the one driving difference I have gone through in detail, on my iRacing hybrid system page.

In iRacing the GTP hybrids run themselves. There are no deploy maps to manage. You brake, you go, and the sim handles the electric side inside the rulebook power limit.

Le Mans Ultimate models more of the WEC rules, including the virtual energy allowance that decides how long a stint really is. That means more to manage from the cockpit and more to get wrong in the setup. If you go that way, start with my Le Mans Ultimate setups page.

Which one is better depends on what you enjoy. If the energy numbers are part of the fun for you, as they are for the real engineers, Le Mans Ultimate. If you want to think about tyres, traffic and the driver in front, iRacing keeps it simpler.

I am not going to give you a verdict on which sim has the more accurate tyre model. I have no back to back data to show you, and anyone who gives you a one line answer on that is guessing.

Which one I would pick

This part is my opinion.

Pick Le Mans Ultimate if:

  • You watch the WEC and want those cars on those tracks.
  • You want to pay once and race daily without a subscription.
  • You like multiclass racing and long stints more than sprint races.
  • You want a proper single player race weekend for the evenings you do not feel like racing people.

Pick iRacing if:

  • You want variety: GT3 on Monday, a formula car on Wednesday, an oval on Friday.
  • You want the licence ladder and a rating that follows you through every category.
  • You race at unusual hours and need a field to be there.
  • You are fine with a monthly bill and buying cars and tracks as you go.

If you cannot decide: start with Le Mans Ultimate. The entry cost is lower, there is no clock running on a membership, and the habits you build in clean multiclass racing carry straight over. If after a few months you want more categories, take one month of iRacing and see.

And plenty of people run both. Le Mans Ultimate for endurance prototypes, iRacing for everything else. With one of them a single purchase, that is less mad than it sounds.

For the older comparisons, see iRacing vs rFactor 2, which is the sim Le Mans Ultimate grew out of at Studio 397, and GT7 vs iRacing.
