No, Wreckfest 2 is not cross platform today, because there is only one platform. The game is in Early Access on Steam for Windows PC. PS5 and Xbox Series X|S versions are announced for the full 1.0 release, and Bugbear and THQ Nordic have not announced crossplay between them.
Split screen is the one feature here with a real promise behind it. VR has none.
Below is what exists on PC today, what the console store pages say, and what the roadmap shows. Where nothing is announced, I say so instead of guessing.
Checked on 15 October 2026 against the Wreckfest 2 Steam store page and its roadmap, Bugbear's 55 Steam news posts up to 14 October 2026, the official site at wreckfest2.thqnordic.com, the PlayStation Store page and the Xbox store listing. Content Update #9 is due today and its notes were not out when I checked. I only used official sources for this page.

Is Wreckfest 2 cross platform?
Not today, and not on paper either.
On PC there is only one store. The official site sells the PC version through Steam and nowhere else, so there is no Steam, GOG and Epic split to bridge. Steam lists the game for Windows only. No Mac, no Linux.
For consoles, I looked in every place Bugbear would put it:
- The Steam store page. No cross platform multiplayer in its feature list.
- The roadmap. The final release column promises more modes, tracks and cars, career and multiplayer progression, full customization, tournaments and modding. No crossplay.
- The Xbox listing. It shows online multiplayer for 2 to 24 players, local multiplayer and shared/split screen. There is no cross platform tag.
- The news. None of the 55 Bugbear posts on Steam since August 2024 mentions crossplay.
So crossplay between PC, PS5 and Xbox is not announced. Nobody has said no. Nobody has said yes.
What about Wreckfest 1? Bugbear added PC crossplay between Steam, GOG and the Epic Games Store in March 2024, announced on Steam on 22 March 2024. That was PC stores only, and it tells you nothing about Wreckfest 2 on consoles.
Does Wreckfest 2 have cross progression?
Not announced. There is nothing to carry over yet, because there is no console version. Steam Cloud saves your progress between PCs on the same Steam account, and that is all the store page lists. The Xbox listing shows Xbox cloud saves, which would work between Xbox consoles. Nothing official links the two.
Wreckfest 2 split screen
This is where the store pages and the game you can buy today disagree.
The official description of the game, the same text on the THQ Nordic site, the PlayStation Store and the Xbox store, says "try the brand new split screen mode" if you have a friend at home. The Xbox listing backs that up with two features: Xbox local multiplayer for 2 players, and shared/split screen.
Read that description carefully though. The same paragraph promises skill based matchmaking and server queues, and those are not in the Early Access build either. It describes the full game, not the current one.
On PC today there is no split screen. The Steam page does not list it, and none of the eight content updates since launch added it. The roadmap does not mention it, not even in the final release column. So I read it as a promise for 1.0, with no date.
Wreckfest 2 PS5 split screen
Here the PlayStation Store page says something different from Xbox. It carries the same split screen line in the description, but the player count says 1 player offline and 24 network players. The Xbox listing says 2 players local.
Store pages for unreleased games get filled in later, so I would not read too much into the PS5 number. But nobody can promise you two player split screen on PS5 today. On Xbox it is listed. On PS5 it is in the description only. On both, the game is not out.

Does Wreckfest 2 support VR?
No. And it is not announced.
The Steam page has no VR support in its feature list. The PlayStation Store page lists no PS VR2 support. VR is not on the roadmap, and none of the news posts mention it. You may see "VR" among the Steam tags, but those tags are added by players, not by Bugbear, so they prove nothing.
Wreckfest 1 does not help here. Its Steam page lists no VR support, and in more than 250 Bugbear announcements for it on Steam I found no VR update. The first game never had official VR. If you saw people playing Wreckfest in a headset, that was not something Bugbear shipped.
What you do get on PC is the next best thing for immersion. Content Update #4 in November 2025 added multi monitor support, and Content Update #6 in March 2026 added more first person camera options, with lock on horizon and a drift cam. Content Update #7 added lobbies where only the inboard camera is allowed.

What multiplayer you can play today
On PC, online is the only way to play with friends. From the update list on the Steam page:

Roadmap promises vs what exists
The roadmap on the Steam page has four columns. Content Update #8 is out now. Content Update #9 is marked for autumn 2026 with new tracks and new cars, and it is due today. After that comes a "tell us what's next" stage, and then the final release.
None of these stages mentions crossplay, split screen or VR. Split screen exists only in the game description and the Xbox listing. Crossplay and VR exist nowhere official.
The launch announcement from March 2025 says the price will rise during Early Access "until the full 1.0 release on PC and consoles". That is the only firm line on consoles: they come with 1.0. The PlayStation Store says the release date is to be determined.
My read, and it is only my read: if you are buying Wreckfest 2 now, buy it for what it is on PC today, online wrecking with up to 24 cars. Do not buy it for split screen on the sofa or for VR. One is a promise with no date, the other is not even a promise.
