Imola is the closest track in the game. Three cars share the top spot and five are covered by 2 kg.

The Ferrari 296 GT3, the McLaren 720S GT3 Evo and the Mercedes-AMG GT3 Evo all sit at 0 kg. The Porsche 992 GT3 R is one kilo back. The Ford Mustang GT3 is two.

So there is no best car at Imola. There are five right answers and you pick the one you drive best.

The lap itself, corner by corner, is in my Imola track guide. If setups are new to you, read the ACC setup guide first. The car choice matters less than getting the pressures right.

The numbers come from Full Grip Motorsport's BoP for Imola, read on 5 October 2026. It is a league balance built from hotlap pace, not the official one in the game.

It works with ballast. The quickest car at each track is the reference at 0 kg. Every other car runs lighter to keep up. The more weight a car has taken off, the further it is from the pace there. I only show their top five. The full table is on their site.

Three reference cars, and the next two within 2 kg. It is the tightest table of all the tracks I looked at. The order of the first three below is mine, not theirs.

1. Ferrari 296 GT3

I put the Ferrari first because it is the easiest of the three to be fast in.

Imola is narrow, with gravel and grass close to the track. You are always turning or braking. The 296 rotates well into the chicanes and it is settled over the kerbs.

It is also the kindest on its tyres, and the long loaded corners at Piratella and the two Rivazzas work them hard.

2. McLaren 720S GT3 Evo

The McLaren makes its time in the fast parts. Piratella. The downhill run into Acque Minerali. The first part of Rivazza. That is downforce country.

It is the free one of the three, so if you only own the track pack this is your car. Watch the tyres over a long stint.

3. Mercedes-AMG GT3 Evo

Imola is a kerb track. Tamburello, Villeneuve and the Variante Alta are all chicanes you attack over the kerbs, and that is what the AMG is best at.

It comes in the same pack as the track itself. If you bought the 2020 GT World Challenge Pack for Imola, you already own one of the three best cars for it.

Good traction up the hill from Tosa as well.

Other cars that work at Imola

  • Porsche 992 GT3 R (-1 kg). One kilo off, so level in practice. It brakes very late downhill into Rivazza and it has the traction out of Tosa. Coach Dave's drivers name Imola as a Porsche track.
  • Ford Mustang GT3 (-2 kg). Two kilos off. Stable, fast and free. Imola has less straight than most tracks, which is why it is not on top here.
  • Lamborghini Huracan GT3 EVO2 (-8 kg). Agile in the chicanes, a little livelier at the rear over the kerbs than the cars above it.

What Imola rewards

A car that can use the kerbs and stays settled when it lands.

The lap runs anticlockwise. Three chicanes, Tamburello, Villeneuve and the Variante Alta, and each one is quicker the more kerb you take. A stiff car bounces and loses the exit. A car that soaks them up gains at all three.

Then braking. Tosa, the downhill stop into Rivazza and the Variante Alta are all places where the rear gets light. Stability on the brakes is lap time.

And traction. Out of Tosa you climb the hill to Piratella, and a clean exit carries all the way up.

There is not much straight. That is why the table is so close. No car can run away on power.

What the pro drivers say

Coach Dave Academy asked its pro drivers to rank the GT3 cars in April 2026. They put the Ford Mustang GT3 first everywhere and they name the Porsche 992 GT3 R as one of the cars to pick for Imola.

Full Grip has the Porsche 992 fourth here, but only 1 kg from the reference. That is nothing. The two sources agree.

The best car for beginners at Imola

The Ferrari 296 GT3. It is one of the three reference cars and the friendliest of them. At a track with gravel this close, a car that does not snap is worth a lot.

If you do not own the 2023 pack, the AMG comes with the track and it is just as quick. It is also easy over the kerbs.

Sprint races and endurance races

Imola is one of the hardest tracks to pass on. The best chance is into Tamburello after the run from the last corner. Tosa and Rivazza are possible if the car ahead makes a mistake.

So for a sprint race, qualify at the front. The McLaren is the car I would do that in.

For a long race I would take the Ferrari for the tyres or the AMG for the kerbs. Track limits are strict at the chicanes and a long race gives you many chances to collect penalties. A car that is stable over the kerbs helps you stay inside them.

Pick the car you know

With five cars inside 2 kg, Imola is the fairest test of a driver in the game. If you are still choosing, I go through the whole class in the fastest GT3 cars in ACC and through the way I would decide in how to choose a car in ACC.

FAQ

What is the fastest car at Imola in ACC?

In Full Grip Motorsport's track by track BoP, read on 5 October 2026, the Ferrari 296 GT3, the McLaren 720S GT3 Evo and the Mercedes-AMG GT3 Evo share the top spot, with the Porsche 992 GT3 R next at -1 kg. That is league data built from hotlap pace, not an official ranking.

Is the Ford Mustang GT3 the best car at Imola?

Not in Full Grip's data. It sits fifth here at -2 kg. Coach Dave's pro drivers still rate it the fastest GT3 car across the game, so it is never a bad choice. It is just not the standout at Imola.

What is the best car for beginners at Imola?

The Ferrari 296 GT3. It is one of the three reference cars and the easiest to drive. If you only own the pack that Imola comes in, the Mercedes-AMG GT3 Evo is in it and is just as quick.

Which car should I pick at Imola if they are all equal?

The one you make the fewest mistakes in. With five cars inside 2 kg, the car is not the difference. I would start with the Ferrari 296 GT3 because it is the easiest to drive.

Where can you overtake at Imola in ACC?

Into Tamburello at the end of the main straight is the main place. Tosa and Rivazza work if the car ahead is slow on exit. Everywhere else it is very hard.

Do I need DLC to race at Imola?

Yes. Imola comes in the 2020 GT World Challenge Pack, together with the Mercedes-AMG GT3 Evo and the Ferrari 488 GT3 Evo.

Does the balance of performance change from track to track?

Yes. ACC uses a different balance for each circuit, which is why the fastest car is not the same everywhere. Leagues such as Full Grip Motorsport and Low Fuel Motorsport can run their own custom BoP on top of that.
