The best drift car in Forza Horizon 6 is the Formula Drift #151 Toyota GR Supra. If you are still learning, it is the wrong car to start in. Start in a Nissan Silvia K's.

That is the short answer. Below is the full ranking, what each car costs and the base tune I would put on any of them. I checked the cars and prices on 4 October 2026. Prices are approximate Autoshow values.

The ranked list

#CarPrice (credits)Best for
1Formula Drift #151 Toyota GR SupraAbout 185,000Best overall, Drift Attack
21997 Nissan #777 240SX Formula DriftAbout 150,000Drift zones, no build needed
31989 Nissan Silvia K'sAbout 40,000Your first drift car
4Mazda RX-7 (FD)Mid rangeThrottle steering, tight circuits
5Nissan Silvia S15Mid rangeBig angle, community favorite
61985 Toyota Sprinter Trueno GT ApexAbout 30,000Touge roads, precision
71994 Mazda MX-5 MiataAbout 15,000Cheapest way in
82015 Lexus RC FAbout 35,000Cheap V8 torque
9Toyota GR SupraAbout 45,000Step up in power
10Ford Mustang Dark HorseAbout 59,000Long, fast drift zones

Every car on the list has the engine in the front and drives the rear wheels. That is not a coincidence. It is the layout that lets you start a slide with the throttle and hold it with the steering.

Approximate Autoshow prices of the main drift cars in Forza Horizon 6, from the Mazda MX-5 at 15,000 credits to the 240SX Formula Drift at 150,000
A good drift car costs less than most race builds. The upgrades cost more than the car.

1. Formula Drift #151 Toyota GR Supra

This is the car I would give to anyone who wants scores and not a project. It is a replica of Fredrik Aasbo's 2020 Formula Drift car, built by Papadakis Racing, with around 1,000 hp from the 3.0 litre straight six.

That sounds like too much power. In this car it is not, because the chassis is set up for it out of the box. The steering angle is huge, the car stays stable when it is fully sideways and it does not snap when you lift.

It is the safest pick for Drift Attack too. On a circuit you need a car that links corners without surprises, and this one does.

2. Nissan #777 240SX Formula Drift

The 240SX is the Formula Drift car to buy first. It costs about 150,000 credits in the Autoshow and it is ready to drift the moment you drive it out.

It is lighter and shorter than the Supra, so it changes direction faster. On the tight mountain drift zones that helps. On long, fast zones the Supra carries more speed.

There are two more Formula Drift cars worth knowing. The #64 Forsberg Racing Nissan Z is the one players use across the widest range of zones, and the #43 Corolla also scores three stars without any tuning.

3. Nissan Silvia K's

My pick for your first drift car. The 1989 Silvia K's is the S13, it costs about 40,000 credits and it is light with modest power.

That combination is what you want when you learn. The car slides at low speed, so everything happens slower. You have time to see the angle, catch it and correct it. In a 1,000 hp car you learn to react. In a Silvia you learn to control.

It also takes upgrades well, so you can grow the car with your skill instead of buying a new one.

4. Mazda RX-7 (FD)

The FD is the sharpest car on this list. It is light, the weight sits low and the rotary engine likes to rev.

It steers on the throttle better than anything else here. A small lift tightens the line, a little more throttle opens it. That makes it very good on technical sections, and less forgiving than the Silvia if your throttle foot is rough.

5. Nissan Silvia S15

The S15 is the car the community builds the most. With a proper drift build it holds very big angle, and it is one of the favorite cars for Drift Attack at Shimanoyama.

Think of it as the Silvia K's with more of everything. If you learned in the S13, this is the natural next car.

6. Toyota Sprinter Trueno GT Apex

The AE86. About 30,000 credits. It is the most famous drift car in the world, and in a game set on Japanese mountain passes it would be wrong to leave it out.

It has very little power stock, so it needs upgrades before it holds a long slide. Once it has them, it is the most precise car here on narrow touge roads. It is not the car for the fast open zones.

7. Mazda MX-5 Miata

The 1994 Miata costs about 15,000 credits. It is the cheapest car in the game that is really good at this.

Short wheelbase, low weight, rear wheel drive. The short wheelbase makes it rotate fast, which is fun and also means it spins fast. Good for learning to be smooth.

8. Lexus RC F

A surprise on the list. The 2015 RC F looks like a heavy grand tourer, and it is. It also has a big V8, a lot of torque and rear wheel drive for about 35,000 credits.

The weight makes it calm and predictable. If the light cars feel nervous to you, try this one.

9. Toyota GR Supra

The road GR Supra at about 45,000 credits is the step between the starter cars and the Formula Drift cars. More power than a Miata or a Silvia, and it rewards you when you commit to the throttle.

10. Ford Mustang Dark Horse

About 59,000 credits. It is loose and it has torque everywhere, so it lights up the rear tires in any gear. It is harder to keep tidy than the Japanese cars, and it is at its best on long, wide drift zones where you can keep it at speed.

One outlier: the Lotus Evija Forza Edition

You will see the Evija Forza Edition recommended for the snow drift zones around Sotoyama. It is an electric hypercar, not a classic drift car, and it scores there without any tuning. It struggles on dirt. Use it to tick off the snow zones, not to learn drifting.

What makes a good drift car

Four things.

  • Front engine, rear wheel drive. All wheel drive cars can score points, but you do not learn the real technique in them.
  • Enough torque to spin the rear tires in third gear. Not more. Good drift builds sit at a few hundred horsepower, not at the maximum.
  • Low weight, or at least weight you can predict.
  • A lot of steering angle. The drift suspension upgrade gives you that.

The mistake I see most is too much power. With too much power you are only ever managing wheelspin. With the right amount you can use full throttle and steer the car with it. It is the same on a real car: the fastest way to learn car control is a car you can drive at its limit, not one that scares you.

Base drift build and tune

The parts first:

  • Drift suspension
  • Drift differential
  • Race transmission
  • Race brakes
  • Weight reduction
  • Engine upgrades until the car spins the rears in third

Then this starting tune. These are ranges to start from, not final numbers.

SettingStart here
Tire pressure28 to 30 psi, add rear pressure if the rear grips too much
Front camber-3.0 to -5.0 degrees
Rear camber-0.5 to -1.5 degrees
Caster6.0 to 7.0 degrees
Rear toe0.0
Differential, acceleration90 to 100%
Differential, decelerationStart low, raise it if the car straightens when you lift
Springs and anti-roll barsFront a little stiffer than rear

On tires, the community is split. Some builds use the drift compound, some use snow tires because the lower grip gives more angle at lower speed. Try both on the same car and keep the one that feels more predictable to you.

The sliders work the same way as in the last game. If you want every one of them explained, read my FH5 tuning guide, and for the full build process my guide on how to make a drift car.

Settings before you start

Switch these off in the difficulty menu:

  • Traction control
  • Stability control
  • Assisted steering

Then set the gearbox to manual. You need to hold one gear through a slide, and the automatic will shift in the middle of it. Manual with clutch is better again, because it gives you the clutch kick.

On a controller, check your deadzones first. My FH5 controller settings are a usable base. On a wheel, use my Forza Horizon 6 wheel settings.

Where to drift in Forza Horizon 6

  • Drift zones. There are 20 on the map, spread over the mountain passes, the coast roads and the city docks. Three stars on each is the classic goal.
  • Drift Attack. Added in Series 5 at Shimanoyama Circuit. You have one lap to make the highest score. Clipping zones around the track boost the points you earn inside them. Finishing its campaign leg rewards the 1990 Jaguar XJ-S Forza Edition.
  • The Drift Club story, six chapters that start near Daikoku Parking Area.
  • Any touge road at night with no traffic. Still the best practice there is.

For Drift Attack, take a rear wheel drive car and do not build for maximum power. A smooth lap that links every clipping zone beats a fast one with two spins.

My picks for every other race type are in my best cars in Forza Horizon 6 list. How drifting fits with the rest of the game, wristbands included, is in my Forza Horizon 6 guide. FAQ

What is the best drift car in Forza Horizon 6?

The Formula Drift #151 Toyota GR Supra. It is drift ready from the start, stable at big angle and the safest pick for both drift zones and Drift Attack.

What is the best drift car for beginners in Forza Horizon 6?

The 1989 Nissan Silvia K's. It costs about 40,000 credits, it is light and it slides at low speed, so you have time to learn.

What is the cheapest good drift car in Forza Horizon 6?

The 1994 Mazda MX-5 Miata at about 15,000 credits. Add a drift suspension and a drift differential and it is a proper drift car.

Are the Formula Drift cars worth it?

Yes, if you want scores without building a car. The #777 Nissan 240SX costs about 150,000 credits and needs no tuning to three star most drift zones.

Is AWD or RWD better for drifting in Forza Horizon 6?

Rear wheel drive. All wheel drive can score in some zones, but rear wheel drive gives you more angle and it is what Drift Attack is built around.

How much horsepower does a drift car need?

A few hundred. Enough to spin the rear tires in third gear. More than that makes the car harder to control, not faster at scoring.

How many drift zones are in Forza Horizon 6?

There are 20 drift zones on the Japan map.

What is Drift Attack?

A drift event at Shimanoyama Circuit, added in Series 5 on 7 September 2026. You get one lap to set the highest drift score, with clipping zones that boost your points.
