If you race on Xbox, buy the R3 Xbox and PC bundle. There is no choice to make, because the R5 does not work on Xbox. If you race on PC only, buy the R5, or the R5 Pro if it is the same money on the day. The extra 1.6 Nm is the part you feel, and on PC the step from the R3 is $100.
Checked on 15 October 2026 against MOZA Racing's US store (us.mozaracing.com): the R3 Racing Wheel and Pedals for Xbox and PC, the R3 Racing Wheel and Pedals for PC, the R5 Bundle, the R5 Pro Racing Simulator, the R9 V3 and R12 V2 wheel base pages, and MOZA's Tokyo Game Show announcement of 17 September 2026. Prices are US prices before tax and MOZA changes them often.

Two things in that table matter more than the rest. The torque, and the platform line. Everything else in the box is close to identical.
Torque: 3.9 Nm against 5.5 Nm
MOZA quotes 3.9 Nm peak for the R3 and 5.5 Nm peak for the R5. That is about 40% more on the R5.
Neither is strong. A GT3 car on a 3.9 Nm base will clip in the fast, heavy corners sooner than on a 5.5 Nm base. Clipping is the moment the base hits its ceiling and the wheel stops telling you anything new. And the thing I want to feel in a fast corner is the wheel going light when the front lets go. If the base is already flat out, that drop gets lost.
So on PC the extra torque is the reason to pay more. It buys headroom, so you can run the strength higher before the peaks get chopped off.
Both bases are direct drive. That is why even the R3 feels cleaner than a gear driven wheel at a similar price. I explain the difference in direct drive wheels explained.
On both, MOZA's own guidance is to leave Game FFB Intensity and the torque limit at 100%. On a base this size there is nothing to hold back. The full values are on my MOZA R3 settings and MOZA R5 settings pages.
Xbox, PC and PlayStation
This is where most people decide without knowing it.
R3. MOZA sells two R3 bundles. The Xbox and PC version is officially licensed for Xbox Series X and S and Xbox One, and also works on Windows 10 and 11. It comes with the ESX wheel. The PC version comes with the ES Lite wheel and MOZA lists it as compatible with Windows 10 and 11 only.
R5. MOZA's R5 page describes the bundle as plug and play with Windows PCs. No Xbox, no PlayStation.
PlayStation. Neither base works on PS5. MOZA announced its first PS5 products at Tokyo Game Show on 17 September 2026: the R5S Pro Racing Simulator, the R16S Ultra Racing Simulator and the R16S Ultra base. MOZA has not published a price, a date or torque figures, and says compatibility is subject to Sony's final approval. If you race on PlayStation, my PS5 sim racing setup guide covers what you can buy today.
So if there is any chance an Xbox ends up under your TV, the R3 Xbox bundle is the only one of these that follows you there. You cannot add Xbox to the PC bundle later with a setting.

What is in each box
MOZA's "in the box" lists, word for word on the parts that matter:
| Bundle | Base | Wheel | Pedals | Also included |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| R3 for Xbox and PC | R3 | ESX | SR-P Lite (no clutch) | Table clamp, power adapter, USB cable, toolkit |
| R3 for PC | R3 | ES Lite | SR-P Lite (no clutch) | Table clamp, power adapter, USB cable, toolkit |
| R5 | R5 | ES | SR-P Lite (no clutch) | Table clamp, power adapter, USB cable, toolkit |
| R5 Pro | R5 Pro | ES Lite | SR-P Lite2 (throttle and brake) | Table clamp, power adapter, USB cable, toolkit |
The pedals are the weak part of every one of these bundles. Two pedals and no clutch. A better brake will do more for your consistency than the 1.6 Nm between these bases. MOZA sells an SR-P Lite clutch pedal for R3 and R5 bundle owners if you need one.

Prices on 15 October 2026
| Bundle | Price | MOZA's list price | Platform |
|---|---|---|---|
| R3 Racing Wheel and Pedals for PC | $279 | $299 | PC |
| R3 Racing Wheel and Pedals for Xbox and PC | $339 | $399 | Xbox and PC |
| R5 Bundle | $379 | $599 | PC |
| R5 Pro Racing Simulator | $399 | none shown | PC |
MOZA also had refurbished bundles on the same store: the R3 PC at $199, the R3 Xbox and PC at $239 and the R5 at $279. Same base, so if the warranty terms suit you, that is the cheapest way in.
On PC, the maths is simple. $100 more takes you from 3.9 Nm to 5.5 Nm. $120 more takes you to the 6 Nm R5 Pro.
The R5 Pro: the third option
MOZA added the R5 Pro Racing Simulator to its US store in July 2026. It is not a replacement page for the R5. Both are on sale.
What MOZA lists as the upgrades: 6 Nm instead of 5.5 Nm, a 21-bit magnetic encoder instead of 15 bit, a 600 MHz CPU and its NexGen force feedback algorithm 5.0. The wheel is the ES Lite and the pedals are the SR-P Lite2 two-pedal set. MOZA's FAQ says the bundle "is designed for Windows PC". So it is PC only too.
Is the R5 Pro worth $20 over the R5? At today's prices, yes. Half a newton metre is small, but the newer encoder and electronics come with it. If the R5 drops further on a sale, buy whichever is cheaper. You will not feel 0.5 Nm on a desk clamp.
The upgrade path
Neither base is the last one you will buy. That is fine, as long as you know the next step.
MOZA's R5 page says the base works with all MOZA steering wheels and accessories, so the ES rim, a better pedal set and a shifter all carry over. On the R3 side MOZA sells the same formula wheel mod for the ES, ES Lite and ESX.
The next bases up, on the same store on 15 October 2026:
| Base | Torque | Price (base only) |
|---|---|---|
| R9 V3 | 9 Nm peak | $299 (list $349) |
| R12 V2 | 12 Nm peak | $399 (list $469) |
Look at those numbers next to the bundles. An R9 V3 on its own costs less than an R5 bundle, but you then need a wheel and pedals. MOZA's R9 V3 bundles with a CS V2P or KS wheel started at $509 that day. So if you already own pedals and a rim, or you can stretch to about $500, skip both and go straight to 9 Nm. My MOZA R9 settings page has the numbers for that base, and the full line up against Simagic and Conspit is in MOZA vs Simagic vs Conspit.
Which one I would buy
Xbox, now or maybe later: R3 Xbox and PC bundle, $339. It is the only one here that works on a console. If you are still comparing with Logitech, Thrustmaster and Fanatec, that is in my Xbox steering wheels guide.
PC only, tight budget: R3 PC bundle, $279. It is real direct drive at the lowest price MOZA sells. Accept that it clips in heavy cars.
PC only, can spend about $400: R5 Pro bundle, $399, or the R5 at $379 if the gap grows. This is the one I would put on my own desk of the four.
PlayStation: neither. Wait for MOZA's PS5 prices or buy what works on PS5 today.
PC, can stretch past $500: skip both and look at an R9 V3 bundle.
Whatever you pick, set it up in Pit House with my Pit House settings guide before you touch the game sliders.
