Short answer: if you own a PS4 or a PS5, you can run Gran Turismo 7. If you only own a PC, you can't.
That is the whole system requirements question for this game, and it is why the lists of CPUs and graphics cards you find around the web for GT7 are made up. Gran Turismo 7 has never been released on PC. There is nothing to benchmark.
What you do need to check is storage space, your internet connection, whether you need PS Plus, and which console gets you which features. I checked everything below on 5 October 2026, after update 1.70.

Which consoles run Gran Turismo 7?
Four of them: PS4, PS4 Pro, PS5 and PS5 Pro. The game launched on 4 March 2022 on both generations, and every update since has come to both.
The content is the same everywhere. Same cars, same tracks, same career, same online lobbies, and PS4 and PS5 players race in the same sessions. Your save is tied to your PlayStation account, so if you start on PS4 and buy a PS5 later, your garage comes with you.
What changes is how it looks and how long you wait.

PS4 and PS4 Pro
The base PS4 runs the game at 1080p, the PS4 Pro at 1800p with checkerboard rendering. Both target 60 fps in races. There is no ray tracing and no VR.
The thing you actually feel on PS4 is the loading. The console reads from a mechanical hard drive, so every race, every menu and every trip to the garage takes much longer than on PS5. If you are doing licence tests with a lot of restarts, that adds up over an evening.
The physics are the same. A lap time you set on PS4 is worth exactly what it is worth on PS5. I would not tell anyone to skip the game because they are still on a PS4.
One practical note: the PS4 disc version ships on two discs, one to install and one to play.
PS5
On PS5 you get 4K at a 60 fps target, HDR, and loading times of a few seconds. You choose between two modes in the options: one that prioritises frame rate, and one that turns on ray tracing in replays, Scapes and the garage. Ray tracing is not active while you race on a standard PS5.
Update 1.31 in March 2023 added a 120 Hz option for TVs and monitors that support 120 Hz and VRR. If your screen can do it, turn it on. More frames means you see the car move earlier, and that helps when you are catching a slide. My picks for the rest of the menu are in the Gran Turismo 7 graphics settings guide.
The DualSense matters too. The triggers push back under braking and the pad tells you when a tyre locks or spins. It is the best pad I have used for a racing game, and the settings I would start from are in the GT7 controller settings page.

PS5 Pro
Gran Turismo 7 got its PS5 Pro patch when the console launched in November 2024. Three things changed:
- Ray tracing during races. Cars reflect each other and their own bodywork while you drive, not only in replays.
- PSSR upscaling. Sony's upscaler gives a sharper picture at 4K.
- An experimental 8K mode at 60 fps. Only useful if you own an 8K TV.
It looks great. It will not make you faster. If you already have a PS5, the Pro is a nice thing to have for this game and not more than that.
How much storage does Gran Turismo 7 need?
Sony listed a minimum of 110 GB of free space when the game launched, on both PS4 and PS5. The PS5 download itself was just under 90 GB, and the console needs the extra room to unpack it.
That was in 2022. Since then the game has had more than four years of free updates with new cars and tracks, up to version 1.70 in June 2026, and none of them made it smaller. I would keep 150 GB free so you are not deleting other games every time a patch lands.

A base PS4 has a 500 GB drive, so GT7 takes more than a quarter of the usable space. On PS5 you can add an M.2 SSD and install the game there with no loss in loading speed.
Do you need an internet connection?
Yes, for almost everything. Sony's own store page says an internet connection is required for most functionality, and that includes the single player career, the Café menus, licences, missions, the livery editor and Scapes.
The reason is the save. Your progress is stored on the server to stop people editing credits and cars. With no connection, the game drops you into a small arcade slice with a handful of cars and tracks, and nothing you do there carries over.
In practice this means two things:
- If your connection drops in the middle of a session, you can lose the result of the race you are in.
- When the servers are down for maintenance before an update, you can't play the career at all. It normally lasts a couple of hours.
You don't need fast internet. A stable one is enough for single player. For online races, a wired connection is worth the cable.
Do you need PS Plus?
Only to race against other people. PS Plus is required for Sport mode, the daily races and online lobbies, with up to 20 players in a session.
You do not need PS Plus for the career, licence tests, missions, circuit experience, time trials or two player split screen on the same console. A lot of people finish the whole Café menu book without ever subscribing.

PS VR2 requirements
VR in Gran Turismo 7 needs a PS5 and a PS VR2 headset. It arrived as a free update in February 2023. The PS4 version has no VR, and the older PlayStation VR headset is not supported.
Every race in the game works in VR, online ones included. Two player split screen is the exception. You sit in the cockpit, and for judging braking points and apexes it is the closest thing to a real car I have tried on a console. Depth is what a flat screen can't give you.

Do you need a steering wheel?
No. Gran Turismo has always been built to work on a pad, and GT7 is the best version of that. You can get gold on every licence with a DualSense.
A wheel makes it more fun and more consistent over a long race. It has to be a PlayStation compatible one. Xbox only wheels do not work. The common choices are the Logitech G29 and G923, the Thrustmaster T300 RS and T-GT II, and the Fanatec Gran Turismo DD Pro.

Can you run Gran Turismo 7 on PC?
No. There is no PC version, and Polyphony Digital has not announced one.
Kazunori Yamauchi, the producer of the series, has been asked more than once. His answers come down to this: they are open to it, the game is tuned very tightly around PlayStation hardware, and nothing is in development right now. Other Sony exclusives have moved to PC, so it is not impossible, but anyone giving you a date or a spec list today is guessing.
The one thing that does work is PS Remote Play. It streams the game from your own PS5 or PS4 to a PC screen. You still need the console and the game, and the picture and input lag depend on your network, so I would not race online that way.

Which console should you buy for GT7?
- You have a PS4: play it there. Same game, same lap times. Upgrade when the loading screens annoy you enough.
- You are buying new: a standard PS5. It gets you 4K, fast loading, the DualSense, the 120 Hz mode and the option of VR later.
- You have a PS5 and a 4K TV you love: the Pro adds ray tracing in races and a sharper picture. Buy it for the looks, not for the stopwatch.
