Gran Turismo 7 is getting its biggest update since Spec III. It is called Spec IV, it is free, and Polyphony Digital is splitting it in two. The first part arrives on 15 October 2026. The second comes in December.
Two new tracks, 12 new cars and a long list of features. Here is what is confirmed, what is not, and what I would do first.
Last checked on 5 October 2026. I will update this page when Part 1 is out and when the December details are announced.

Kazunori Yamauchi announced Spec IV on 3 September 2026. The date for Part 1 and the final car list came on 3 October, with a trailer shown at the Gran Turismo World Series round in Singapore. Polyphony ties the update to the 30th anniversary of the series in 2027.
Sportsland SUGO: the new track in Part 1

SUGO is a real circuit in Miyagi Prefecture, in the north of Japan. Fans have asked for it for years, and it has never been in a Gran Turismo game until now.
I have not raced there, so I will tell you what the layout tells me. It is short, a little over 3.5 km, and it is built on a hillside. The lap drops down through the first half and climbs back up through a long, fast last corner onto the main straight. The track is narrow, and the run off is small. Japan's top series race there, and the races are known for being messy for exactly that reason.

What I expect in the game:
- The last corner decides the lap. It is long, uphill and leads onto the straight. Your exit speed there is worth more than anything you gain on the brakes.
- Elevation changes the braking. Downhill you brake earlier than your eyes tell you. Uphill the car stops better than you think.
- Online races will be tight. Narrow track, short lap, few places to pass. Qualifying will matter a lot.
Polyphony has not said how many layouts the game will have. I will add them here on release day. For the rest of the Japanese circuits, see my GT7 Japanese tracks list.
The six cars in Part 1
| Car | What it is | Why I care |
|---|---|---|
| Ferrari F355 Berlinetta '94 | Mid engine V8 Ferrari from the 1990s | The one most people will buy first. Light, high revving, no turbo |
| Honda Civic Si Group A Version '87 | Group A touring car from Japanese racing | Small front wheel drive race car. These teach you a lot about entry speed |
| Mazda RX-VISION GT3 EVO | Updated version of the virtual rotary GT3 car | The only one of the six built for the top online classes |
| Xiaomi Vision Gran Turismo | Electric Vision GT concept | A show car. Fun for a time trial |
| Citroen 2CV 6 Charleston '86 | The two tone French classic, very little power | A slow car is the best way to learn momentum. I mean it |
| Honda Stepwgn Spada Premium Line '23 | A Japanese family minivan | The joke car of the update. Every GT update has one |

The F355 is the headline. It was a late change: the first trailer showed a V10 BMW M5, and that car has now moved to December, with the Ferrari taking its place in October.

The RX-VISION GT3 EVO is the one to watch if you race online. The current RX-VISION GT3 Concept is already a popular Gr.3 car. Polyphony has not said how the EVO will be balanced against it, so wait for the first week of races before you spend credits. My best Gr.3 cars in GT7 page is where I will put the verdict.

And do not laugh at the 2CV. When I coach young karting drivers, the lesson that takes longest is carrying speed without power to hide behind. A car like this is that lesson. You cannot fix a bad corner with the throttle.
Prices and dealers are not announced. I will add them on release day.
New features in Part 1
Vintage. A new section for cars that you can no longer buy new. Polyphony has not explained yet how it sits next to the Used Cars and Legend Cars dealers.
Car Concierge. This is the big one for collectors. You order a Used or Legend car and it is found for you, so you are no longer stuck waiting weeks for the rotation. From the trailer you can pick a clean, low mileage car or a more used one. The number of orders you can have open depends on your Collector Level. The trailer also showed the Mercedes W196 R at just over 20 million credits, the most expensive car the series has had. If you are saving for the top cars, my GT7 credits guide is still the way to get there.
Experience. Driving challenges for each brand, in Brand Central. Older players will remember the dealer events from Gran Turismo 2. It is that idea.
Car Viewer. Walk around the cars in your garage and take pictures of them in different settings.
Collector Level. The cap goes up. The new number is not confirmed.
There is also a new opening film.
Part 2 in December
- Autumn Ring. A classic original circuit from the first games. It returns with the original layout and a new, expanded one.
- Six more cars. Only the V10 BMW M5 is known so far.
- Shuffle Race. Online races where the game gives everybody a random car. It was in older Gran Turismo games, and it is a good leveller: no meta car, only driving.
- Online Drift Trial. Drift scoring against players around the world. If you want to be ready, start with how to drift in GT7.
- Family mode. A simpler way in for kids and beginners.
- Gran Turismo Sophy. The AI gets another step. No details yet.
- A new difficulty level for the Power Pack. For players who find the current races too easy.
The day in December is not announced.
What I would do before 15 October
- Save credits. Six cars now and six in December, plus Car Concierge making the expensive Legend cars easier to get. You will want a full wallet.
- Learn SUGO before the lobby does. On release day, do 20 quiet laps in a car you know before you go online. A narrow track punishes people who learn it in traffic.
- Do not buy the RX-VISION GT3 EVO for racing on day one. Wait to see where the balance of performance puts it.
- Leave space on the console. Big updates are big downloads. The size is not announced.
