Automobilista 2 VR (Review, Settings & Headsets)

If you’re deep into sim racing, then you’re probably always looking for ways to improve your performance.

And one of the best ways to do that is by using a virtual reality (VR) headset. VR gives you the ability to immerse yourself in the race and really feel like you’re behind the wheel.

But with so many VR headsets on the market, it can be tough to know which one to buy. That’s why we’ve put together this review of Automobilista 2 in VR.

We’ll tell you what we think about the game and how it performs in VR, as well as some tips on settings and reviews from other drivers.

So if you’re thinking about getting into VR sim racing, let’s now go through the entire step-by-step guide.

Does Automobilista 2 have VR?

Yes, you’ll be able to play AMS2 in VR by using the Steam VR platform. You’ll want to follow this path: Steam->Play->launch in VR

The good news is that you don’t need an extremely powerful PC to enjoy the benefits of driving Automobilista 2 in VR.

You’ll mainly need your graphics card to be above GTX680 and have more than 4GB of RAM and you’re good to go.

How do you use VR in Automobilista 2?

For you to get started with VR you’ll want to be using Steam VR.

Here’s the step by step process you’ll need to follow:

  1. Open Steam VR
  2. Go to Steam VR settings
  3. Select Automobilista 2 on “Manage video settings”
  4. “Motion smoothing” to “Enabled”
  5. Set “FOV” to 140
  6. Click Play and a pop-up window will open
  7. Select “launch Automobilista 2 on SteamVR”
  8. Launch AMS2 and start playing

AMS2 VR Headset Compatibility

Let’s now have a look at the entire Automobilista 2 headset device compatibility according to the most popular VR brands including Oculus and HTC Vive.

  • Oculus Rift
  • Valve Index
  • HTC Vive
  • Windows Mixed Reality

Let’s now have a look at each of these VR headsets for Automobilista 2.

1. Oculus Rift

Being probably the most popular VR brand, the Oculus Rift is unsurprisingly compatible with Automobilista 2.

The only thing you’ll need to do is to make sure your overall PC specs and graphics card are powerful enough to run the game in VR.

I’ve used this device several times and I can confirm that it gives a really great VR experience when playing Automobilista 2.

2. Valve Index

The Valve Index is also compatible with Automobilista 2, again provided that your PC has the right specs.

Interestingly, the Valve Index offers a slightly higher resolution than the Oculus Rift, so if you’re looking for the best possible VR experience, this might be the headset for you.

3. HTC Vive

The HTC Vive is also fully compatible with Automobilista 2, and as with the other headsets, you’ll just need to make sure your PC is up to the task.

Being the most expensive headset on our list, the HTC Vive does offer some pretty stunning features that enhance the racing experience to a whole new level.

4. Windows VR Mixed Reality

Windows Mixed Reality is compatible with Automobilista 2, but it doesn’t quite reach the same level of quality as the Rift or HTC Vive in my opinion.

Still, if you’re on a budget or you don’t have the right specs for those headsets, then Windows Mixed Reality will do the job.

Automobilista 2 VR System Requirements

Now that we know a little bit more about which VR headsets to use, let’s have a quick look at the PC requirements for Automobilista 2 VR.

As you can see I’ve presented both Minimum and Recommended Specs, just keep in mind that these specs are only the bare minimum and you’ll probably want to have a PC that is closer to the “Recommended” specs in order to have a superb VR experience.

Minimum Requirements:

  • CPU Processor: 3.5 GHz Intel Core i5 3450 or AMD FX-8350
  • Memory:  8 GB of RAM
  • GPU Graphics Card: NVIDIA GeForce GTX 460 or AMD
  • Disk Space: 50 GB

Recommended Requirements

  • CPU Processor: Intel Core i7 8700K / AMD Ryzen7 2700X
  • Memory: 16 GB of RAM
  • GPU Graphics Card: NVidia GTX 1080Ti or equivalent
  • Other Requirements: Broadband Internet connection

Recommended VR Graphics setting

In terms of graphics settings, you’ll still want to be careful and make sure they’re properly set to avoid frame drops, as it can really ruin your VR experience.

In terms of visible cars for example, you can play around between 10 and 15 though I would not exaggerate too much as it can start to overload the system.

Automobilista 2 VR performance

When it comes to performance, it’s important to stress that each PC isn’t equal and having better GPU and processors will definitely help.

That being said, people normally get around 50-60 FPS when playing Automobilista 2 in VR so that can be a good target for you to start.

If your PC falls below the minimum specs I mentioned earlier, you might still be able to play the game, but you’ll likely have to turn down some of the graphics settings, or else you’ll experience frame drops.

Is Automobilista 2 VR worth it?

It absolutely is! If you have the right specs for your PC and you’re using one of the VR headsets I mentioned, then you’re in for an incredible experience.

Racing games have always been a blast in VR and with titles like Automobilista 2, it’s only going to get better for you.

It’s nearly as good as iRacing or ACC when it comes to VR performance and so it’s definitely worth trying it out anytime soon.

Conclusion:

There you have it, a full guide on Automobilista 2 VR! I hope this article was of some help to you and that it answered any questions you might have had.

Remember to make sure your Steam VR settings, as well as pc requirements are met to avoid any problems with your Virtual Reality Racing.

If you’re looking for a great racing game to play in VR, then Automobilista 2 is the perfect option for you!
